Editor:
William R. Avison, Editor (Ph.D., University of Alberta, 1977) is Professor of Sociology at the University of Western Ontario with cross-appointments in the Departments of Paediatrics and Epidemiology & Biostatistics. He is also Chair of the Division of Children’s Health and Therapeutics at the Children’s Health Research Institute, and Assistant Director of the Lawson Health Research Institute. His current research focuses on the ways in which socio-economic disadvantage and various types of social stressors affect the health of families across the life course. He was the 2009 recipient of the Leonard I. Pearlin Award for Distinguished Contributions to the Sociological Study of Mental Health and the 2004 recipient of the Society for the Study of Social Problems' James R. Greenley Award for Distinguished Contributions to the Sociology of Mental Health. Avison is currently Chair of the Medical Sociology Section of the American Sociological Association and a past chair of the ASA Section on the Sociology of Mental Health.
Deputy Editors:
Carol A. Boyer, Deputy Editor (Ph.D., Yale, 1986) is associate director of the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research and a member of the graduate faculty in the department of sociology at Rutgers University. Her research focuses on access, utilization and the content of treatment and services provided to individuals with schizophrenia spectrum disorders and the impact of mental health services on social functioning, symptomatology, and quality of life. Current projects involve examining psychosocial interventions and strategies to enhance adherence with antipsychotic medications and linking individuals with long inpatient psychiatric stays in state hospitals to supported housing and community services. Prior research focused on the concordance in recognizing nonadherence among psychiatrists and primary therapists and their agreement with clients' medication-taking behavior. She works collaboratively with researchers at the Indiana Consortium for Mental Health Services Research analyzing patterns in mental health services utilization and stigma. Currently she is a Study Section Reviewer for Health Systems Research at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and Secretary-Treasurer of the Medical Sociology Section of the American Sociological Association.
Scott Schieman, Deputy Editor (Ph.D. University of New Hampshire, 1997) is Professor of Sociology at the University of Toronto. His research interests focus on work, the work-family interface, stress processes and mental health. He also has interests in the sociological study of religion—especially the social psychological and health effects of religious beliefs. He was named as a Senior Research Fellow of the Ontario Mental Health Foundation from 2009-2011. He has served as a member of Council of the Section on the Sociology of Mental Health of the American Sociological Association.
Mark Tausig, Deputy Editor (Ph.D., SUNY/Albany 1979) is associate dean of the Graduate School and Professor of Sociology at the University of Akron. He is also a member of the faculty in the Consortium of Eastern Ohio, Master of Public Health Program. His research interests focus on labor markets, work and mental health and on mental health in developing countries (Nepal). His current projects include describing the mental health impact on employed workers of the Great Recession, mental health stigma processes in Nepal and the application of social network theory to the self-management of chronic illness. He has served as Newsletter Editor, Secretary/Treasurer and Chair of the ASA Section on the Sociology of Mental Health. He has also served as a member and Chair of the ASA Committee on Sections.
Kristi Williams, Deputy Editor (Ph.D. University of Texas at Austin, 2000) is Associate Professor of Sociology at The Ohio State University and Senior Scholar at the Council on Contemporary Families. She studies the influence of intimate unions, parenthood, and other social relationships on mental and physical health with attention to social structural variation and inequality in these patterns. Recent projects include an NICHD-funded study of the consequences of nonmarital fertility and subsequent marriage for the health and well-being of women and their children. Her work has received awards from the American Sociological Association, The National Council on Family Relations, and the International Society of Behavioral Medicine. She has served on the editorial board of Journal of Health and Social Behavior and the Advisory Board of the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth.

Gale Cassidy, Managing Editor (M.A. University of Western Ontario, 1998) is Professor of Sociology at the University of Western Ontario. Her research interests are in the area of gender, family and poverty.
